John Rufo

New England-based artist, John Rufo is a painter and an architect. In his work, John focuses on objects in the landscape. His still lifes are most often composed by assembling temporary landscapes of familiar objects. John says, “The thing to know about my artwork is it is one manifestation of a daily practice of living that is trying to be conscious and fully present.” In his artwork, John expresses the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi as seeing the ordinary beauty of things as imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. “Who’s to say what beauty we will find in the ordinary things we come upon and the repeated cycles of the natural landscape, and how these temporary vistas leave their impressions on our lives?”
