ART + WINE + CHEESE Events in Alexandria, VA

Nepenthe Gallery holds a weekly ART+WINE+CHEESE event every Thursday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. which is open to our local community and the Virginia, Washington, DC, and Maryland communities at large.  We introduce new art exhibits, sponsor speakers, invite artists to lecture and speak, feature local, nationally, and internationally established artists, and showcase musicians who play live music in the gallery.  

Nepenthe holds special events and exhibits featuring a wide range of fine art from oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings to sculpture, textiles, mixed media, drawings, collage, and photography.  Our art genres include realism, abstract, classical, historical, painterly, photorealism, impressionism, expressionism, and contemporary works.

ART + WINE + CHEESE: Nepenthe welcomes artist Kim T. Richards and a collection of new works just right for Summer!

Kim T. Richards lives in beautiful Loudoun County, VA, and shows her work in the Washington DC region. Growing up in Brooklyn, NY, Kim had opportunities to see great art at the many museums in the city from a very young age. Inspired to pursue a career in art, Kim attended Parsons School of Design where she received classical drawing and painting training, earning a BFA in Illustration.

Marsha Staiger is an artist and teacher who lives, works and creates in Alexandria, VA. Marsha is an acrylic painter, who has been working from her studio at The Torpedo Factory for over 21 years. After painting for many years, Marsha says, “I love to paint.  I love color. My process is a meditation and a struggle.”

Observatory Time—The Lovers, 1936 by MAN RAY

ART + WINE + CHEESE: Happy Birthday to the famous artist MAN RAY who revolutionized modern photography and was a leading figure in the Dada and Surrealist Movements

MAN RAY was born on this day in 1890 in Philadelphia PA as Emmanuel Radnitzky.  He was a pioneering American artist who played a vital role in the Dada and Surrealist movements. Relocating to Paris in 1921, he revolutionized photography with darkroom innovations like solarization and cameraless "rayographs". He also created iconic sculptural assemblages and experimental films, leaving a massive impact on 20th-century art.

TAMARA MINARCHI is an emerging artist who lives and paints in the beautiful town of Leesburg VA. Tamara is pursuing a lifelong dream and passion for art and the creative process.  Tamara specializes in landscape works executed in various mediums.  While she enjoys working in acrylics and mixed media , her primary love is oil and she considers working in oils to be “absolute magic.”

FUNDRAISER: EdenSpring 6 – 8 p.m.

Nepenthe Gallery is honored to host a special event for a remarkable organization. Edenspring is a non-profit dedicated to providing restorative care and a safe haven for survivors of sex trafficking.  They offer up to two years of rent-free, serene housing alongside wraparound services like faith-based counseling, medical care and job skills training.
