Harry Moxley is a Virginia-based ceramics artist whose wheel-thrown stoneware celebrates the beauty of imperfection. Using textured clay bodies, slips, and a variety of atmospheric firing processes, his work is inspired by both traditional Japanese pottery and the work of contemporary potters. Experimentation and exploration are at the heart of all his work, and he is drawn to the resulting unpredictability that different firing and glaze techniques produce. His work celebrates spontaneity and the subtle beauty of functional forms. His pieces are designed for everyday use while retaining the individuality of handmade craft.

Harry has exhibited throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, including the Virginia Clay Festival, the Crozet Arts and Crafts Festival, the Virginia Artisan Studio Tour, Hinckley Pottery, Baltimore Clayworks, and Nepenthe Gallery. He teaches ceramics at City Clay in Charlottesville and leads workshops.

Beyond ceramics, Harry recently retired from an extensive career in film and digital media production, having spent most of his career with Discovery Communications, and most recently as a Senior Producer at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

Harry’s MoxPots Studio is based in Charlottesville, Virginia.
