Shona D’Cruz is a Virginia based artist, teacher and owner of Blue Hyacinth Mosaics, LLC. Originally from India, Shona began her career as an early childhood educator and has always been connected to art, which led her to explore mosaics and fused glass art. Shona has participated in various art shows and has been awarded residencies to create collaborative projects with local school communities. She has shown her work at the Strathmore, Gallery B and The Art League, among others. She enjoys teaching mosaic and fused glass art to adults and children in her home studio and at various locations in the DMV area.

“The permanence and the impermanence of glass is intriguing to me. Transparency in a piece of clear glass can be played with to reveal what is inside and yet protect it at the same time. Seeing light dance through colored glass has the ability to create a childlike awe in the viewer, a sense of being bathed in it, while yet being separate. The ability I have as an artist to bend light, to make it dance, reflect and move and create a sense of intrigue in the viewer,  is very powerful to me.”
