ART + WINE + CHEESE: Norman Rockwell (American 1894-1978) celebrated with Saturday Evening Post Art Critic, David Apatoff
David Apatoff is the art critic for “The Saturday Evening Post.” He has worked with art ranging from prehistoric cave paintings to the latest modern art in museums. He has a special fondness for the art of American illustration, in particular, the iconic works by the late, great Norman Rockwell. Apatoff has said of Rockwell paintings, “…a painting by Norman Rockwell can be viewed on many different levels. Some enjoy Rockwell as a storyteller. Others like to go on a treasure hunt for details. Some like to look for a quick joke. But to fully appreciate the effort Rockwell put into his pictures, we should also look at his pictures as works of art. Rockwell put his heart and soul into design, composition, color, and other characteristics of making ‘art’ in the tradition of the greatest painters in history.” Apatoff will share stories from his own fascinating career in the art world, as well as interesting highlights about Norman Rockwell. Nepenthe will proudly display Rockwell works on loan from a private collection and will also have a curated collection of Rockwell prints available for sale from our Nepenthe Collection.
