Karen Cogar’s involvement with visual arts ranges from graphic design and illustration to promoting the arts as a Board member of The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. She studied at The Worcester Museum School, graduated from Clark University and received an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. She worked for The Martin Agency, was Art Director for County Magazine and co-owner of Beau Faux, a mural business, and her illustrations included covers for various publications, including The Washington Post. She now works primarily in dry brush water color on paper.
Many of her paintings include plant material, echoing her interests in gardening. She is a judge and Board member for The American Daffodil Society and Blandy State Arboretum, and welcomes tours in her garden. A lifelong equestrian, she lives in Alexandria with her husband and dogs.
