ART + WINE + CHEESE – Caroline and John Rufo – CANCELLED

Nepenthe Gallery artists Caroline and John Rufo
have had to cancel their plans to be with us
this Thursday August 10th due to the recent storm
that ravaged the East Coast. We are keeping them in
our thoughts and prayers as they recover
from a catastrophic flood.

We have shared images of the original works they were
planning to bring to Nepenthe this week—if you are
interested in finding out more about any of them please contact Carrie directly at 703-856-5277.

Notes about works by Caroline:
“Some of the titles are excerpted phrases from poems written
by the painter Fairfield Porter. I’ve been looking closely at his
handling of color and mark-making in this series of work.

In some works I’ve been influenced by a Japanese printmaker
named Hasui Kawase, from the Shin Hanga art movement.
It is the compositions that most influenced my recent work.
Looking through close up objects at spaces beyond, is a metaphor
for attempting to be present in the details of this moment,
while holding a larger point of view at the same time.”
